We believe that the Coach/Athlete relationship is a key performance factor and like any other relationship is is defined by the quality of understanding, respect and trust that exists between the two people. At Challenge Tri Camp we create a coaching and training ‘environment’ which supports all aspects of the process, ensuring the athlete is able to train progressively over a given period, see performance gains and reach their individual goals. Our entire focus is athlete driven, and our training plans are completely bespoke for each athlete based on current performance against agreed target goals.

As certified coaches we utilise all of the advanced analytics available to us on the coaching platform, Trainingpeaks, and along with Best Bike Splits, provide our athletes with the all important data to fine tune their training and performance. Add to this our results driven and detailed knowledge of the coaching process and how to get the best for our athletes. The coach/athlete relationship is a powerful tool in athletic development and supports the overall development of our athletes.

Winning Performances
Over the past 12 years we have worked with, coached and guided our athletes to take podium slots as well as overall wins at Age Group World & European Champions in Sprint, Standard, Olympic, Middle and Long Distance events. We have athletes who compete on the world stage at Ironman 70.3 & 140.6 events, qualifying for both Kona and the 70.3 World Championships. Whatever their back story: from a newbie just starting their triathlon journey to a seasoned competitor looking to step up a level, we have helped them in their journey to success.

With Best Bike Splits the math and physics engine takes your power data, course info, and race day conditions to predict your race performance and create the perfect power plan so you can hit your best bike split ever.
 
Challenge Tri Camp build your plan for you whether you are training for your first race or you’ve been racing for years, We then monitor your progress and update your training as needed to keep you progressively improving and moving forward.

Meet The Coaches

Brent Perkins

Joint Head Coach & Co Founder Challenge Tri Camp

I am professional coach working full time with Challenge Tri Camp and have been for over 12 years. I began my sporting career as a runner before moving into triathlon. Over the last 12 years I have coached and worked with many athletes working towards their training and racing goals, and in 2019, 2021 and 2022  I coached and worked with athletes to win Age Group World & European Championships in both Triathlon, Duathlon and Ironman World championships slots at both 70.3 and 140.6 distances
 
Getting results is a key Challenge Tri Camp coaching principle and I work very closely with my athletes to prepare them for their races. I am a qualified cycling and triathlon coach, a British Triathlon Team Manager with over 500 team GB athletes, as well as a Certified Training Peaks Coach, a cycle strength and conditioning coach and just one of only 37 Swim Smooth Coaches in the World. I also won Triathlon England Coach of the year 2019-20.
 
I have coached and delivered training camps for Team GB Age Group triathletes working towards team selection as well as athletes looking to becoming a first time Ironman finisher. It’s my job to help guide my athletes to achieve personal goals and enjoy their journey.
 
As an athlete I have competed in races of all distances all over the world including multiple Ironman 140.6 and 70.3’s. I have also held age group titles and have raced at both ITU World and ETU European level. In the ultra running world I have completed 2 x LAMM 1x RAB MM and in 2019 I completed the Mallorca 5000 SkyRun. In 2022 I cycled across Costa Rico from the Carribean coast to the Atlantic coast unassisted and also in 2022 I cycled the Camino de Santiago, both of these adventures were riding on gravel bikes.

Nick Dunn

Joint Head Coach & Co Founder Challenge Tri Camp

Having been double World Age Group Champion across Sprint and Olympic distance as well as racing at Elite level in both short and long distance events, I had an enjoyable triathlon career and learnt so much along the way. While I was competing I also started coaching and quickly realised that this is what I wanted to do when I finally hung up my tri suit! That happened in 2013 and since then I have been a full time triathlon coach and never looked back.  Coaching is not just my job, it is my passion.

 

I have over 20 years racing and coaching experience plus a degree in sport science and a background in strength training.  For the last 12 years, as the Co-Founder of Challenge Tri Camp I have been lucky enough to have gained even more experience of working with a wide range of athletes covering all abilities and multisport disciplines, on 100’s of training camps!  So with most of my life in and around triathlon and now even having children that partake, I see my role as not just as a triathlon coach but as a role model and educator with the aim of helping our Challenge Tri Camp athletes to become healthier, fitter and stronger. This in turn, then aids them to achieve and meet their performance goals and triathlon aspirations.

 

I have taken complete novices who are unable to swim to compete in half distance events to working with professional triathletes to fine tune their already high skill base.  I have clients who are all about competing and have helped guide them through qualifications and then onto World Championships over all triathlon distances and also led athletes to World and European Gold medals in several disciplines. I am very proud of these coaching achievements and hold them above my own personal ones but for me it is about self-improvement no matter what level you are competing or completing at.  Whether that being doing their first ironman or a novice event, I look at all your numbers and stats, and enjoy doing the ‘techy’ bit but also want to know how you are doing and how you feel – triathlon both in training and on race day is about mental and physical strength and part of the coach athlete relationship is looking at the person as a whole.
 
I have ‘been there and done it’ but also have the knowhow and take huge pleasure to be able to pass on my knowledge and help others no matter what their starting level or aspirations are.

 

At Challenge Tri Camp we have a long and proud history of helping athletes achieve their goals and sporting aspirations.  Working closely with the athlete, it is about training smart to ensure they hit their goals in peak condition.
